COME BACK TO THE SHOW

EPOQUAUTO

EpoquAuto is an exciting and unforgettable odyssey to the heart of ancient automobile passion in Lyon, a large city in France, capital of Gaul, and which is also the world capital of gastronomy.

The 2023 edition of EpoquAuto took place from November 10 to 12 in Lyon, transforming the vast halls of Eurexpo into a true sanctuary dedicated to lovers of vintage cars.

Organized by a club of enthusiasts, the event mobilized no less than 250 passionate volunteers, bringing this unique show to life.

Proudly occupying 5 halls as well as the central square of Eurexpo, EpoquAuto 2023 welcomed 849 exhibitors, including 528 dedicated to spare parts and old documents, as well as specialized craftsmen.

What makes EpoquAuto so special is its status as the only show of this scale organized by a club of vintage car enthusiasts.

Unlike major international shows such as Essen, Maastricht, Brussels or Paris-Rétromobile, EpoquAuto has managed to maintain the authentic character of a stock exchange, contrasting with the global trend where collector vehicle dealers and service providers are taking center stage.

Lyon has managed to preserve this essence by highlighting the passion shared by fans.

Where other events gradually shift towards intensive commercialization, EpoquAuto remains faithful to the spirit of exchange, highlighting the diversity of regional clubs and brands.

This approach gives the show a unique atmosphere, truly designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, a strong point that is felt in every corner of the exhibition halls.

One of the striking characteristics of EpoquAuto is the central place given to regional and brand clubs. This creates a friendly and authentic atmosphere, where enthusiasts can share their experiences and exchange anecdotes with other enthusiasts.

This symbiosis between clubs, exhibitors, and visitors makes EpoquAuto much more than just a show; it is a meeting place, a celebration of the shared love for vintage automobiles.

This year, EpoquAuto highlighted three emblematic brands: Peugeot, Talbot, and Cadillac, one of which belonged to the legend Johnny Hallyday. This eclectic selection allowed visitors to discover or rediscover a multitude of emblematic models, illustrating the diversity of automotive history.

Between popular brands still in operation, prestigious brands that have now disappeared, and giants of the American automobile industry, visitors had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a true automobile retrospective.

The show also highlighted several themes, ranging from rallying to hill climbs, including youngtimers (collector cars from the 80s/90s) and utility vehicles, including imposing coaches and the emblematic Berliet manufactured In Lyon.

This thematic diversity helped enrich the visitor experience, offering a variety of exhibitions and demonstrations that captivated the attention of enthusiasts.

The aisles of EpoquAuto were lively with the presence of enthusiast clubs, car dealers, private car sales areas, and areas dedicated to vehicles up for auction.

Visitors were able to admire an impressive range of models, from popular cars to luxury ones, allowing everyone to find what they were looking for, whether for purchase or simple contemplation.

The range of activities offered to visitors was as vast as the diversity of vehicles on display.

Between the acquisition of an old one, the contemplative strolls, the activities such as the record dismantling of a Citroën 2CV, and the conferences organized by the French Federation of Vintage Vehicles, everyone could find what they were looking for.

The clubs, present in large numbers, were available to answer visitors' questions, displaying a smile and patience which underline the passion which drives them.

The 3A association (Classic Automobile Lovers), in charge of organizing EpoquAuto, deserves a special mention. The professionalism and dedication of the 3A were remarkable, ensuring the smooth running of the event despite the crowds from the moment the doors opened.

The 250 volunteers formed an exceptional team, effectively managing the busy crowds from 9 a.m. on Friday, coordinating access to the parking lots, and ensuring that each visitor could fully enjoy the EpoquAuto experience.

On Friday, from 10 a.m., the aisles were already crowded, creating an electric atmosphere where business was brisk. The regulars met with enthusiasm, while the newcomers were amazed by the diversity of the exhibitions.

It is in these moments that the involvement of the 3A was most evident, offering visitors a smooth experience, in a warm and caring environment.

Each year, the 3A demonstrate their expertise by choosing themes that highlight specific brands, adding a thematic dimension to the show.

This year, the honor was given to Peugeot, Talbot and Cadillac, offering visitors an immersive dive into the history of these iconic brands. The 3A also ensures that the soul of the show is preserved by giving a significant place to clubs and individuals, and by creating a space where diversity reigns supreme.

The icing on the cake was that we even had the chance to have a model (artist, actress, etc.) in a vintage costume in front of the beautiful Cadillacs, but we'll probably talk to you about her later.

The friendly atmosphere of EpoquAuto is also enhanced by the gastronomic tradition of the region.

Visitors, who come in vintage cars, also benefit from privileged treatment with the provision of free parking, adding a picturesque touch to the overall spectacle.

The 3As, with their keen sense of organization, manage to maintain a relaxed atmosphere despite the crowds, creating a harmonious balance between automotive passion and conviviality.

Beyond economic considerations, EpoquAuto offers a day of shared happiness.

The remarkable involvement of the 3A, the frequent reunions between enthusiasts, the quality and quantity of the exhibitors, as well as this unique atmosphere of popular celebration, make this show an event apart.

The experience goes beyond simply looking at vintage cars; it is part of a true immersion in automotive history, where each model tells a story, and each enthusiast shares their love for these vehicles full of memories.

The show is not only an exhibition space, it is also a large car flea market where visitors can find rare parts, unforgettable souvenirs, and exchange anecdotes with other enthusiasts. The clubs, at the heart of this ecosystem, are essential pillars, offering a space where camaraderie and exchange are in the spotlight.

It's a total immersion in automotive culture, where visitors can not only admire exceptional models, but also learn more about their history from the enthusiasts who proudly present them.

Gender diversity is the hallmark of EpoquAuto, making sure not to give in to elitism often seen elsewhere. The parts and automobile dealers' halls are a real treasure trove for enthusiasts, offering items at all prices..

Authenticity reigns, and each stand is an invitation to discovery, in search of the rare pearl that will complete the collection or that will evoke a precious memory.

However, in the midst of this passionate excitement, economic considerations emerge.

Prices appear to have increased since the previous year, raising questions about the reasons for this increase.

From simple keychains to catalogs and books, merchants, including individuals, have adjusted their prices, sometimes significantly.

Visitors, while understanding the economic realities, were able to see this evolution of prices, while expressing their passion through negotiations often marked by conviviality.

Despite this observation, the price of entry to the show remains affordable, which contrasts with other events of the same type.

With a price of €16 at the checkout, €14 online, €13 for students, and free for children under 12, EpoquAuto remains an event accessible to all vintage car lovers. This pricing policy reflects the organizers' intention to make the EpoquAuto experience accessible to as many people as possible, thus promoting the diversity of visitors.

Beyond the economic aspect, spending a day at EpoquAuto provides shared happiness. The 3A, through their commitment and passion, have succeeded in creating an event that goes well beyond a simple car show. It is an immersive experience, a dive into automotive history and culture, where every detail is carefully orchestrated to provide a memorable day for enthusiasts.

The spirit of EpoquAuto also lies in the generosity of the volunteers, who devote time and energy so that each visitor leaves with memories engraved in their memory.

The 3A are the real heroes behind the scenes, orchestrating this event with remarkable precision and an obvious love for vintage automobiles. Their dedication deserves special recognition, because it is thanks to them that thousands of enthusiasts are able to experience this unique immersion in the world of vintage cars every year.

In conclusion, EpoquAuto 2023 was much more than just a car show.

It was an odyssey through time, a celebration of shared automotive passion, masterfully orchestrated by the 3A and their army of dedicated volunteers.

Varied exhibitions, warm encounters, passionate exchanges and a friendly atmosphere marked this edition, making it an unmissable event for all vintage car enthusiasts.

EpoquAuto is not only an annual meeting, it is an experience that leaves an indelible mark in the heart of each visitor, a memorable chapter in the rich history of automobile passion.

By its scale but also by its exceptional quality, EpoquAuto has undoubtedly become the first international show surpassing all others.
