THE SAPORAILLE

Who hasn't dreamed of using a time machine ? !

By pure chance, we came across an association which allows you to relive for a moment in a distant past, that of the Napoleonic period.

This association is called “la Saporaille”, a very friendly team, which transports you and makes you want to join straight away.

We tell you about them and their history, their objectives, to help you discover them.

A little history :

After the abdication of Napoleon I, the fall of the Empire and the restoration of royalty with Louis XVIII, all the soldiers of the Napoleonic armies were demobilized and had to surrender their weapons (sabers, rifles), uniforms and all equipment. military.

Covered with glory throughout Europe, many soldiers loyal to Napoleon did not want to give up their weapons and equipment and hid them.

In June 1817, after the failure of the Bonapartist insurrection in the Lyon region, in which Savignois took an active part, and the repressions which followed, these uniforms and materials became even more precious and more carefully hidden within the families.

On August 12, 1857, Napoleon III decided to grant a medal known as Saint Helena, accompanied by a pension, to all soldiers of the land and sea armies who fought under the flags of France from 1792 to 1815.

In 1858, in Savigny, the troop came to pay honors to these last survivors on the occasion of the patronal festival of Pentecost.

These veterans, seeing themselves recognized, were able to bring out hidden weapons, equipment and clothing to parade and celebrate this event.

Creation of the Saporaille:

Since that day, each year, on the occasion of the patronal feast of Pentecost, people from Savignois, assisted by medalists from Sain Bel, will perpetuate this tradition until the 1960s with a traditional parade, singing. La Saporaille was born.

The activities of Saporaille :

For several years, a small group has reconnected with the past and revived this ancient tradition. This team is made up of 15 sappers, 1 mounted hussar, and 3 waiters who parade to the sound of the drum, punctuated with revolutionary songs and Empire. The parade ends with rifle and cannon fire, accompanied by the “little glass” of friendship.
