RETURN TO EARTH BY THOMAS PESQUET

Apparently in great shape during his press conference in Cologne (Germany)our astronaut.

Here he is re-adapting to gravity by following a medical rehabilitation program for terrestrial life .

"I come out of two hours in the gym where I was a little tortured, but it's for my good" , explains the astronaut.

The return was a bit difficult at first.

After six months of floating like a butterfly in the ISS, getting back to gravity is difficult.

The balance is slightly modified.

But we get used to it pretty quickly. After twelve hours, I was functional. I could walk, climb stairs, turn, put on my socks all by myself."

It is certain that in space, the human body undergoes aggressions such as muscle and bone loss, loss of sight and cardiovascular problems.

This is the reason why 2h30 of sport every day was compulsory in space to compensate for the effects of the absence of gravity.

The effects on muscle mass and bone density resolve "fairly well" .

He specifies that he has had vision tests which show that she has not changed.

Moreover, one of Thomas Pesquet's missions consisted of numerous experiments on the subject .

"We are studying how the body adapts to space, but also how to recover once it returns to Earth," he explained from the top of the International Space Station.

After six months "floating like a butterfly" in the International Space Station, astronaut Thomas Pesquet has rediscovered the pleasure of being on Earth!

At the opening of the capsule, Thomas Pesquet had like "an overdose of sensations" , with "the smells of the steppe, of the slightly wet grass" .

The colors were also stronger, as "if we had turned the contrast of the television to the maximum".

Happy also to find his companion in Cologne!

But he is not ready to stay there all the time:

“Luckily, at the European Space Agency, it is that we have a lot of missions in space” ,

"Perhaps we can imagine that I will return to space fairly quickly. It will be a new challenge," he added.

The astronaut, who returned to Earth on Friday, said he was "very well" .

The astronaut does not intend "to return to space immediately". “I will have to talk about it with my partner first” and “get back in shape”.
