TOWARDS AGREEMENT FOR GAFA TAXATION

US Finance Minister Stephen Mnuchin said on Wednesday that the United States wanted to reach an agreement with France in the OECD on taxation of Internet giants. He also declared his support for the French initiative of a minimum tax on companies.

"We hope to solve this problem together this year," said the US official Wednesday, questioned on the taxation of digital giants at a joint press conference with his French counterpart Bruno Le Maire.

If Steven Muchin is not in favor of the French project of taxation of the digital giants on their turnover, which should be presented next week in the Council of Ministers, he however "rejoiced in the French intention of 'repeal if a global agreement was found within the OECD'.

The United States and France have both "instructed their teams at the OECD to try to solve this problem this year," added the Treasury Secretary.

Bruno Le Maire recalled that France would apply its own tax while hoping that the OECD will once and for all get its members to agree on the taxation of GAFA (Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon).

"We believe that we must reach as quickly as possible at the OECD level to a global, multilateral solution that would, of course, be the best solution," admitted the French minister.
