ALL ABOUT THE CESAR 2023

Tonight , Friday February 24, 2023, the César ceremony is to award the most prestigious prizes in French cinema, with two great favorites, L'Innocent and La Nuit du 12.

It is Tahar Rahim who is the president of the 48th Cesar ceremony. Thirteen years after receiving the César for best male hope and that of best actor for his role in A Prophet by Jacques Audiard, this prestigious function returns to him.

He was noticed for his performances in Designated Guilty and The Serpent, a series broadcast on Netflix.

This year it is up to a host of artists to present, host and accompany the Eye Haïdara evening, Leïla Bekhti, Emmanuelle Devos, Léa Drucker, Ahmed Sylla, Jamel Debbouze, Raphaël Personnaz and Alex Lutz are expected on stage .

The consecration has been awaited and hoped for by Virginie Efira for years. Will she win the César for best actress?

She is nominated for her role in Revoir Paris, by Alice Winocour, in which she played a survivor of the November 13 attacks in search of answers and reconstruction.

The actress also starred in the moving En Attendant Bojangles, directed by Régis Roinsard, Les Enfants des autres by Rebecca Zlotowski and the astonishing Don Juan by Serge Bozon, in which she co-starred with Tahar Rahim.

For the same category, male equivalent, the big favorite is Benoît Magimel, highly acclaimed for his chiaroscuro role in Albert Serra's Pacifiction.

As for female revelations, the dazzling Rebecca Marder and Nadia Tereszkiewicz shone thanks to their respective roles in The Almond Trees by Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and A young girl who is fine by Sandrine Kiberlain.

Or Denis Menochet. Named for Peter von Kant, it's as if he was also, on the sly, for As Bestas. Two huge performances that make him the actor of the year.

As for who will win the César for best film…

the match could be between Louis Garrel's luminous police comedy L'innocent, carried by a five-star cast which garnered 11 nominations and Dominik Moll's thrilling thriller La Nuit du 12, which dissects the investigation around a case of feminicide. The feature film received 10 nominations.

Great forgotten anyway. The virtual absence of the film Simone by Olivier Dahan may come as a surprise. Elsa Zylberstein was eligible for a nomination for her role as Simone Veil. The biopic is content with two nominations in technical categories (sets and costumes). November by Cédric Jimenez, the 3rd biggest success of the year, manages on the other hand to hold its own, with 7 nominations.

To succeed Cate Blanchett, the Césars have chosen to distinguish David Fincher, American director and producer, a Fight Club, admired for Gone Girl, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button... He also supervised the special effects of cult films such as Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi or The Neverending Story.

This evening, David Fincher will receive his honorary Cesar from the hands of Virginie Efira.
